So far, we have covered the goalkeepers and defenders. Today, we continue with the defenders.
Alejandro Bedoya (FC Nantes): In his third season in France, Bedoya enjoyed another year filled with fine performances. In Ligue 1 play, he scored three times and set up another three goals. In their run to the quarterfinal of the Coup de France, Bedoya scored two extra-time winners against FC Montes and fellow Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
Fabian Johnson (Borussia Monchengladbach): Johnson was a key component in Monchengladbach's fourth-place finish in the German top flight. Opposing Bundesliga sides struggled to contain him, as he scored six times in league play including a brace against his former club Hoffenheim. Another goal also helped beat eventual champions Bayern Munich, putting a halt to their 10-match unbeaten run. In the Champions League, ‘Gladbach was placed in the “Group of Death” with Juventus, Manchester City and Sevilla, Johnson scored twice in group play and will look to add to that this upcoming season.
Perry Kitchen (Heart of Midlothian): After joining the Scottish Premier League side in March, Kitchen wasted no time getting settled into his new team. In the last 10 games of the season, he logged many minutes in the middle of the Hearts midfield, helping them finish in third place, good enough for a Europa League place next season.
Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt): After a promotion winning season last campaign, Morales helped Ingolstadt keep their Bundesliga status for another year. Featuring 24 times in the top flight for the Bavarian outfit, Morales lone goal of the season came in a 2-2 draw against Hannover. He added two assists in a season that saw Ingolstadt finish 11th.
Danny Williams (Reading FC): In his third season at Reading, Williams had a stellar campaign for the Championship side including a quarterfinal run in the FA Cup. He led the team in league goals, tallying five, and added another in a 4-0 FA Cup thrashing of Walsall. Highlight reel moments included scoring 15 seconds into a match against Middlesbrough and his wonder strike against Blackburn, which is on the shortlist of Football League Goal of the Season.
