Brazil and England clash in the opening match of Matchday 2 at the 2015 Nike International Friendlies.
Hosted by U.S. Soccer at Premier Sports Complex in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida (Dec. 4, 2015) - Phil Foden bagged a brace in the span of seven minutes during the first half to help the England U-17 Men’s National to a 2-0 win against the Brazil U-17 Men’s National Team on Match Day Two of the 2015 Nike International Friendlies Friday afternoon.
While England earned their second win of the competition, it was Brazil that brought the first danger to the match. In the 12th minute, Dimitri beat his marker to the end line on the left before cutting back to Brenner Souza at the top of the area, but his effort was turned away by England ‘keeper Curtis Anderson.
England began to take control of the match, springing Austin Samuels through to the top of the box where his one-on-one opportunity was turned away by goalkeeper Lucas Alexandre in the 20th minute.
Brazil wouldn’t be as fortunate one minute later when England’s Emile Smith Rowe earned his way into the box on the left before centering for Phil Foden who first-timed his effort past Alexandre in the 21st minute.
England doubled its lead through Foden seven minutes later. Ian Carlo Poveda found space on the left to cross and picked out the unmarked Manchester City youth product who headed home from the penalty spot for his second of the match.
Brazil nearly cut the deficit in the 31st minute when a corner from the right fell outside the box for Dimitri. He played the ball square for Joao Pedro Ribeiro, but the defender chopped his effort wide right of goal.
Rain muddied much of the play in the second half, with neither team able to create too much at either end as England ran out 2-0 winners.
With the result, England remains perfect at the 2015 Nike International Friendlies with a 2-0-0 record (6 points), while Brazil falls to 0-2-0. England will have a chance at clinching the 2015 Nike International Friendlies championship in their competition finale Sunday at 3 p.m. against The Netherlands, followed by Brazil against the United States at 6 p.m. ET.
