It was only three months ago when the LA Galaxy U-15/16 Academy team earned a national title with a 2-0 victory against Real Salt Lake AZ. The two sides are back at it again this Saturday in Carson, California.
A majority of the players involved in that championship match, including both LA Galaxy goal scorers Dylan Smith and Juan Orozco, are at the U-17/18 age group now, and it comes as little surprise that both teams are among the top of the Southwest Division. The LA Galaxy is tied for first place with Real So Cal (5-1-1, 2.29 points per game) and Real Salt Lake AZ is third at 3-1-2 (1.83 points per game).
Out East, the Atlantic Division includes some highly anticipated matchups. The 5-0-0 New York Red Bulls U-17/18s hit the road to face defending U-17/18 champion Players Development Academy in Zarephath, New Jersey. The Philadelphia Union U-15/16s and U-17/18s host Bethesda-Olney on Saturday at YSC Sports. The Union U-15/16s are a perfect 6-0-0, and despite a stellar 4-1-1 record, Bethesda-Olney’s U-15/16s are actually in fourth place in the division.
In the Central, the top two Frontier Division teams in the U-17/18s, FC Dallas (3-0-0) and the Houston Dynamo (2-0-1) go head-to-head at the Houston Sports Park. The Dynamo has allowed only one goal in three games and FC Dallas has outscored its opposition 11-2 in the early going.
