Landon Donovan, the top scorer in U.S. Soccer history, bids farewell to the sport he helped a nation fall in love with Friday night against Ecuador. U.S. Men’s National Team members Jozy Altidore, Mix Diskerud and DeAndre Yedlin took some time to reflect on what it has meant (and what it will mean) to play alongside Donovan on his last game sporting the Red, White and Blue.
U.S. MNT Forward JOZY ALTIDORE:
“Landon was always a positive guy; he was grounded and focused on what was coming. He was a pleasure to play with. He was a good passer of the ball, and a player who seemed to pick up the right pass and the right moment. It was nice to be on the receiving end of those passes and score some nice goals. We will miss him.”
U.S. MNT Defender DEANDRE YEDLIN:
“It’s amazing. Landon’s been a guy that I’ve watched since I was young, so just to be part of his last game is something really special and a moment that I will never forget.”
U.S. MNT Midfielder MIX DISKERUD:
“It’s a little bit crazy. There’s been a lot of press around the whole game and Landon. I can’t wait for the last 30 minutes Landon is going to play with U.S. Soccer. It’s going to be memorable. I’ve learned a lot from Landon, both on and off the pitch. We’ve shared some special and fun moments together.”
