Development Academy side Bethesda-Olney had a strong first campaign in 2013-14, while D.C. United has been a staple of the Academy for many years.
An early test arises for both clubs when they square off against each other this Sunday.
This East Conference matchup is certainly one of the standouts heading into the weekend, especially in the Washington, D.C./Maryland region. Bethesda-Olney, which took second place in the nation at the U-17/18 age group last season, is off to a good start this year with a 3-1-1 record. Its Atlantic Division rival, D.C. United, is ahead in the standings at 4-1-0 and touts an offense that has scored 17 goals in five games (3.4 goals per game). In the U-15/16 age group, Bethesda-Olney is still unbeaten at 3-0-1 faces a D.C. United team that earned its first win in convincing fashion, 6-0 against Albertson SC, last Sunday.
In the Central, the top two Frontier Division sides in the U-17/18 age group go head-to-head for the first time this season in Woodlands, Texas. The Texas Rush is 3-0-0 (3.00 points per game) and is coming off of its most convincing win of the season, a 6-2 victory against the San Antonio Scorpions Youth Academy. All three Rush wins have also come on the road, so Saturday marks the team’s home opener before heading back on the road twice more in October. FC Dallas (2-0-0, 3.00 points per game) is off to a strong start with a 3-1 win against Solar Chelsea SC and a 3-0 road victory against the Colorado Rapids last week.
Out West, the Academy version of the SuperClasico is on the docket with Chivas USA hosting the LA Galaxy on Sunday in Bell Gardens, California. Both Galaxy teams are off to 3-1-1 starts to the season and sitting in second place in the Southwest Division
