In its Fourth Straight Postseason Berth, Charlotte Soccer Academy Qualifies for First Finals Week
Having qualified for the Academy Playoffs for four straight seasons, Charlotte Soccer Academy’s U-15/16 team accomplished a first this time around with a Finals Week berth in Houston.
How they got to Finals Week: Charlotte Soccer Academy allowed one goal during the Academy Playoffs and won its group on goal differential over Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Charlotte had a 3-1 win against South Carolina United Battery, a 2-0 win against FC Greater Boston and a 0-0 draw against Vancouver.
Finals Week and Academy Playoffs History: Charlotte Soccer Academy has qualified for the Development Academy Playoffs for four consecutive years, becoming a mainstay at the annual postseason tournament. This year marks the first time the U-15/16 team has finally made it through to the Academy’s Finals Week for a shot at the national championship.
2011-12 Regular Season: Charlotte Soccer Academy conceded only six goals in 14 games while earning a 9-2-3 Atlantic Division record. The club also had a mark of 13-8-7 overall while capturing the division’s second berth to the Academy Playoffs.
About head coach Kevin Langan : Langan was named the head coach of UNC Charlotte in January, and he has been a member of the 49ers coaching staff for the past three seasons in addition to coaching Charlotte Soccer Academy. Before moving to Charlotte, Langan spent four years as the head boys’ coach of the Classics Elite Soccer Academy in San Antonio, Texas. He also coached the Classics Elite Soccer Academy’s U-18 Development Academy team in 2008. Langan represented Great Britain at two World University Games – 2001 in Beijing, and then captaining the team in Daegu, South Korea, in 2003. He was also selected to play for the England National Futsal Team on a Tour of Portugal in 2003. In England, Langan played professionally with Bristol City FC for six seasons, making his debut as an 18-year-old.
About Charlotte Soccer Academy: Charlotte Soccer Academy was created in 2008 when South Charlotte Soccer Association and Charlotte Soccer Club decided to consolidate and form one club. Since that time, Charlotte Soccer Academy has been a constant at the Development Academy Playoffs. The club has seen its players advance to colleges and universities such as South Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, Davidson and Appalachian State.
