First-Class Indoor Soccer & Futsal Facility to Host Identification Camp Sept. 12-15, followed by Official Training Camp Sept. 24-Oct. 1
TORRANCE, Calif. (Aug. 4, 2011) – U.S. Soccer and the U.S. Futsal National Team will stage an elite player identification camp from Sept. 12-15 at South Coast Soccer City in Torrance, Calif.
South Coast Soccer City is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the sport of Futsal. The facility is housed in a 73,000 square-foot building in Torrance with five Futsal fields, including an international size field, and will also host the U.S. Futsal National Team from Sept. 24 to Oct. 1 in their first official training camp of 2011.
The ID camp from Sept. 12-15 has been designed to identify the top Futsal players in the country, with an eye toward strengthening the U.S. team that will attempt to qualify for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand.
The camp will serve as an introduction to the highest standard of Futsal within the U.S. and therefore space is extremely limited and will be by invitation only. Players selected to attend the ID camp will have a chance to become part of the team's player pool and to compete at the highest level of the sport in the United States and potentially against the world's best national teams.
“We are very excited about our first ever National ID Camp for our U.S. Futsal National Team," said longtime U.S. head coach Keith Tozer. "This ID camp is extremely important in identifying the upcoming Futsal talent in the United States as we prepare for our CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup. We are also very proud to be able to utilize such an amazing facility for Futsal in Soccer City in Torrance. It's a great place to call home not only for the ID camp, but for our upcoming full national team training camp as well.”
Following the U.S. Futsal Team's two camps at South Coast Soccer City, Tozer will select a roster that will represent the United States at the 2011 Grand Prix of Futsal, an elite annual international tournament taking place in Brazil from Oct. 14 to 24.
