Richmond Kickers (USL) 0, Christos FC (Md.) 1
A tidy performance from Christos FC saw the amateur side advance to the Third Round of the 2017 U.S. Open Cup at the expense of professional USL side Richmond Kickers thanks to Geaton Caltabiano’s winning strike late in the second half. The Kickers opened the first half on the front foot but found the hard-working Christos side difficult to break down. The teams reached the midway point tied 0-0, and in the second half, the Kickers upped their pressure, hitting the crossbar in the 74th minute before seeing another attempt cleared off the line. Five minutes later, the well-organized Christos defense won a turnover near midfield and got out on a 3v2 break. Brian Graham carried the ball forward and put Caltabiano in on goal as the Christos players neared the top of the box. From a wide angle to the right of goal, Caltabiano beat Kickers ‘keeper Marcel DeBellis with a low shot in the 80th minute to set Christos FC up with a Third Round matchup against PDL side Chicago FC United.
